A clinical study of 250 cases with patients having thyroid nodules, which were received surgical management and confirmed pathologically at the Department of Surgery, Chonnam National University Medical School, from January 1988 to March 1991,
was
investigated and following results in preoperative tentative diagnosis and occult mass(esp. cancer) detection rate between ultrasonography and radioisotope thyroid scanning in evaluation of thyroid nodule.
1) About nonfunctional thyroid disease, ultrasonography was showed relatively good diagnostic results compared with radioisotope scanning both benign and malignant thyroid nodules.
2) In the detection of occult mass and metastatic lymph node, the ultrasonography was by far the best result than radioisotope scanning both benign and malginant thyroid diseases.
